Packing Check List

Well the closing date on you're newly purchased Fort Wayne home is approaching, which means it's time to pack things up at your Whitby real estate and move them across the country to your new home. If this is your first big move, this process can seem overwhelming. We find that following lists helps keep us calm, so we've written this packing checklist for you to make your move easier.

Pare Down Junk

It's difficult enough to pack up and move all your essential stuff over to the new house, but if you're also taking all the junk that you've built up and don't even need anymore it's going to be three times as hard. Therefore before you start packing go through all your stuff and sell, donate, give away, recycle, or throw out everything you don't need. Those pages of Kitchener Waterloo real estate listings from before your last move, that broken TV, your old sofa - ditch them all and lighten your load.

Get Packing Material

You'll need more than boxes to properly protect some of your items. Televisions, paintings, glass-framed photos, dishes, and lamps are all very fragile. Etobicoke real estate agents recommend you round up a large collection of sheets and blankets (your own will do), newspapers, bubble wrap, or Styrofoam peanuts to cushion your breakables when you load them into the box or truck.

Label Clearly

The mistake made by a lot of people who are putting up their Mississauga homes for sale and moving away is in sacrificing organization for speed. Packing takes a long time and while you might be tempted to not label the boxes clearly with what's in them, don't skip this! If you do, you'll be saving perhaps 5 minutes per box but adding 2 hours to the search time every time you go looking for something in the new place.

Arrange for Movers

Some people act as their own movers or get friends to help them move out of their Toronto condominium. That's fine, just remember to arrange a truck (either rent one or borrow from a friend) and to reward your friends with pizza and beer. Moving companies tend to do a better job, though, and if they break something insurance will cover it, so consider shelling out the extra dough for professional help. Whenever you're renting or hiring, remember to book a few weeks in advance to guarantee availability on your big day.
